Interview with Voracious Scourge done by Patrick posted on 2-16-18

Interview with Voracious Scourge done by Patrick

1.Hello how are things going with you this week? Please introduce yourself to the readers?

Hails Metal brothers and sisters, this is Jason main song writer and founder of Voracious Scourge. Things are going great! Just got back from watching the Mighty Exhorder (Louisiana Thrash Legends) destroy a venue in New Orleans.

For anyone who hasn’t heard of Voracious Scourge here’s a brief description of who we are.

Voracious Scourge is an old school brutal Death Metal Project which consists of Me (Jason Mcintyre) guitar player of Louisiana death metal band “Suture”, Mike Smith on drums who is a former member of the brutal death metal gods “Suffocation”, Adrie Kloosterwaard on vocals of the mighty Dutch death metal masters “Sinister”, and Lance Strickland also of Suture on bass.

2.When did you first get the idea to start this band? And who would you say are Voracious Scourge biggest influences?

I came up with the Idea for the project early in 2017. After a few email conversations, Mike and Adrie jumped on board, then Lance joined about month later after I had everything in place to start recording the EP.

Some of my biggest influences are of course the late 80’s and early 90’s death metal and thrash bands like Suffocation, Sinister, Deicide, Death, Pestilence, Entombed, Exhorder, Paradise Lost, Entombed and so on.

3.Our Demise is Voracious Scourge debut Mcd which is being released through Immortal Souls Prod. how did you and the band come in contact with this label?

Adrie has been friends with Juro (ISP label owner) for many years. He told him about the project and Juro was immediately interested. He contacted me about signing Voracious Scourge to ISP. So he and I worked out a deal we both benefited from. Immortal Souls has been great to us so far. He and I have a good business relationship.

4.Does the whole band work on writing the music or does one member write everything? How long does it usually take to write one song?

I write all the material including lyrics. Send out rough demos and everyone puts their own unique twist on it. As far as how long a song takes, I never put a time limit on creating a song. Some come pretty quick while others take weeks to finish. I never rush anything. The song Oracle of Repugnance took 2 days to write, while Harbinger of our own Demise took 2 weeks. It’s funny because you would think it would be the other way around considering the 2 songs themselves.

5.Besides the debut Mcd does the band have any other merchandise available forth readers to buy? If yes what is available and where can the readers buy it?

At the moment Immortal souls are offering Cds, and T-shirts. But its my understanding Vinyl versions and Cassettes will be available in the very near future. Please visit immortalsouls.sk

6.Has Voracious Scourge played live yet? If yes what have been some of the bands most memorable shows?

No, we all live worlds away from each other. A live show is not probable but it’s also not impossible, it would just need the right motivation behind it. Motivation meaning funding.

7.Has the band started working on new music for the next release? Will it be a Mcd or would you like to work towards a full length?

Yes, I have started working on new material. The next release will be a full length. I am hoping we can be finished recording it later this year for a 2019 release. But who knows, if things fall into place quickly, maybe it might even be sooner. Like a late 2018 release. I definitely do not want to be a band that takes 2 years to put out releases. Especially since we are not built for touring.

8. I believe all the members of the band have been active in the metal underground since the mid 90's what is it that has kept you doing this for so long?

Sorry for such a short answer but, The love and passion for creating extreme music fuels me, that’s it.

9.How would you say the underground scene has changed or evolved since the 90's to present day?

Other than the fact the scene is still thriving and healthy with tons of great and unique bands. I can say the “real quality” bands from back in the day, mainly the forefathers, have withstood the test of time. While all the pretenders and bandwagon bands (and fans for that fact) have fallen off the map.

10.When you need to take a break from writing music or band business what do you like to do in your free time?

Spend time with my family. That’s the most important thing to me in life next to Voracious Scourge.

11.Thank you for taking the time to fill this interview out do you have any final comments for the readers?

Thank you very much Patrick for the interview, I really appreciate it. I am also very humbled by the show of love and support we have been receiving so far regarding our new Ep "Our Demise". Please Visit Immortal Souls Productions, they put a lot of their faith, hard work and support into us by releasing our ep. Stop by our Facebook page give us a like, a share, or send us a message letting us know if you liked the ep. Once again Thank you and stay brutal My friends!

ANCIENT VISIONZ RADIO SCHEDULING FURTHER INTERVIEWS

Ancient Visionz Radio is currently scheduling more interviews from indie film, metal, hc punk, and underground hip hop. I'd like to suggest reading the FAQS, which answer all questions and state what is needed to come on the show, and how it works, etc, etc.

If interested, please treat Ancient Visionz Radio seriously, ensuring to confirm all agreed dates within a good time frame and not last minute, make sure to create a Skype account before the day of the show, and add myself. This helps save time if there are any technical issues, or you are not familiar with Skype. If unsure, request a test call before the actual interview.

Ancient Visionz Radio FAQS
http://ancientvisionz.blogspot.co.uk/p/blog-page_11.html

Please remember we are all busy, and I'm trying to accommodate guests from many scenes, time zones, and PR companies. Failure to turn up for a show, or leaving everything until last minute with no communication is a waste of time.

Please contact Gaz at the email address below to schedule an interview on Ancient Visionz Radio. Serious enquiries only.

Interview with Et Moriemur done by Patrick posted on 2-7-18

Interview with Et Moriemur done by Patrick

1. Hello please introduce yourselves to the readers?

Hello Patrick and everybody who´s reading, here is Zdenek, I am writing from Prague and I am the singer of the Czech doom band Et Moriemur.

2. Et Moriemur was formed in 2008 what gave you all the idea to start this band? And how did you choose the band name does it have a special meaning?

I´ve always been into music, playing or composing, and at that time I felt like I needed to externalize my feelings and emotions - hoping that the result would be any good :)
My girlfriend found the name for the band reading the book, "Western Attitudes Toward Death“ by Philippe Ariès. „Et Moriemur („And we shall die“ in Latin) sounds good, what do you think?,“ she asked me. I couldn´t but agree :)

3. The band seems to draw influences from a few different genres of music who would you say are Et Moriemur biggest influences?

Of course we are influenced mainly by doom bands such as the early Paradise Lost, Evoken, Skepticism, Mournful Congregation or Shape Of Despair. There are other influences though coming from black metal (like Burzum or Bethlehem), German dark wave scene, movie soundtracks or ambient and classical music.

4. Epigrammata is the bands third cd how long did it take the band to write the music for the new release?

We actually started composing it even before our second album was recorded and released so, as is usually our case, the whole process had been rather long. This time we wanted to achieve a very spiritual atmosphere - that´s why we relied heavily on traditional Gregorian chants and lyrics in Ancient Greek and Latin.

5. Who usually handles writing the lyrics for the music and what are some topics you all wrote about on the new release?

It´s me who writes the lyrics basically trying to fit them into the concept of the album. Epigrammata, a Greek word for epigrams i.e. brief (in our case funerary) poems, tries to come to terms with the dying or death or our loved ones. One thing I´d like to point out is that „loved ones“ here doesn´t refer necessarily only to people but to animals as well or any other being we adored and is no more here.

6. Does Et Moriemur get to play live very often? If yes what have been some of the bands most memorable shows over the years?

No, we don´t play very often, we´d like to anyway and let´s see what where Epigrammata will bring us. Throughout the years we played with many great bands such as Mournful Congregation, Saturnus, Esoteric, Ahab, My Lament, Doomed, Ophis or Marché Funebre.

7. Are there any tours or shows planned this year in support of Epigrammata? If yes where will the band be playing and who are some bands you will be sharing the stage
with?

Yes we are planning a string of shows - in Czech republic and around Europe as well. We started working with a proper booking agency, let´s see what will come out of it.

8. Besides the upcoming Epigrammata release does the band have the previous releases still availible for the readers to purchase? Besides physical releases are there any other merchandise availible for the readers, if yes what is availible and where can the readers buy it?

Sure, people can buy all our albums from us except for our original first EP which is sold out but we have a digipack re-release from 2015 of that. Plus we have our second album Ex Nihilo In Nihilum re-released on black and white LP as well. And sure, we have merch, basically t-shirts as we already sold all our hoodies. Everything can be bought directly from us at etmoriemur.com or through the relevant bandcamp pages. Epigrammata and related merch can be bought from our label Transcending Obscurity as well.

9. Has the band ever made a video for any of the songs? If you had the opportunity to make a video for any songs off of Epigrammata which song would you like to be seen made into a video?

Yes, we made a video for the song Liebeslied (Ex Nihilo album). As for Epigrammata we are already working on another official video clip for one of the songs, let us surprise you :)

10. Et Moriemur comes out of the Czech Republic death/doom scene, I know the Czech Republic has a strong death/black metal scene, but what is the doom metal scene like?

There was a strong doom metal scene here in the Nineties with superb bands such as Dissolving Of Prodigy or Silent Stream Of Godless Elegy but then it gradually died out (how appropriate for the genre...). Anyway there has been a doom resurgence with the start of the new millennium and nowadays I´d say the Czech doom metal scene is small but active and with solid bands such as Somnus Aeternus, Self-Hatred, Quercus, The Tower, Blues For The Red Sun or The Corona Lantern.

11. Who are some of your all time favorite bands coming out of the Czech Republic? Are there any new bands you feel the readers should watch out for?

As a teenager I would listen to Czech death/thrash metal bands like Krabathor or Debustrol. As for doom metal I would definitely pick up the above mentioned Disolving Of Prodigy and Silent Stream Of Godless Elegy. I can´t omit the Czech black metal legends Master's Hammer of course. And nowadays I love listening to Panychida, Inferno, Mörkhimmel, Malignant Tumour or Insania.

12. When not working on new music or band business what do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I´m really into Buddhist teachings and meditation and apart from that I practice muay thai. Besides that I love reading some good books or watching Italian horror movies from the 50s-80s :)

13. Besides metal do you or any of the band members listen to any other forms of music? If yes, who are some of your favorite artists and bands?

As for me I like listening to classical music from Gregorian chants to Schönberg´s expressionism, jazz musicians like Coltrane, Evans or Zorn or traditional/ethnic music (any kind). And my bandmates have varied musical tastes as well.

14. Thank you for taking the time to fill this interview out, do you have any final comments for the readers?

Thank you for your support and we hope to see you at one of our shows!

Grim Fate--Emerging From The Crypt cd {Chaos Records} posted by Patrick on 2-6-18

Grim Fate--Emerging From The Crypt  cd  {Chaos  Records}

Starting off with a short intro the music doesn't take to long to pick up the pace. Wim handles the guitar duties mainly playing in the heavy mid paced style  but does speed up to a faster pace in some of the songs. Wim also does a good job of creating and performing some well written solo's and guitar patterns. Pier handles the vocal duties for the band which are heavy, deep death metal growls and some screams are used throughout the recording. If you are a fan of Demigod and early Incantation then do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of Emerging From The Crypt today.

ANCIENT VISIONZ INTERVIEW WITH SHADOW REALM (CLASSIC/THRASH/PROG METAL)

Patrick's Q's

1. Hello how is 2018 starting off for you and the band?

2018 has started off great for Shadow Realm so far – We played local shows and have scored international supports slots for legendary thrashers OVERKILL and the One and Only ROSS THE BOSS from Manowar fame.

2. When did you first meet the other members of the band and was it long before you all started Shadow Realm?

Im Constantinos the drummer for Shadow Realm, I had heard our vocalist Torsha on a session recording my friend did. It was a low key recording for his community. As soon as I heard his voice I saw a vision for a future band. That band would become SHADOW REALM.  The bass player and guitarist of Shadow Realm also played in a black Death Metal Band with me called OATH OF DAMNATION. Matt is a great guitarist, I would even go so far as to say world standard, and Pahl is a super solid bass player and great guitarist vocalist in his own right. On keys we have Tim who has a classical and metal background and is an ex scientist, we knew Tim from other local bands but as a drummer though. I basically got Torshas number from the studio, I called him having never ever met him and asked to to join my new project with the before mentioned musicians. I told him my vision, which was to have a classical metal band with elements of thrash, progressive metal and whatever else we thought sounded good.  I told him the other musicians are very strong and we would kick ass as a team if he joined in. He said yes. It was a phone call that I am very glad to have made. I had a good feeling about the band. This was in 2012

3. Shadow Realm seems to draw influences from a few different genres of music, who would you say are the band's biggest influences? And for the readers who have never heard the band's music, how would you best describe it?

We like to describe ourselves as classic/thrash/prog metal. Some say we have elements of Power Metal too. We don’t totally feel the whole Power Metal Vibe as we think we are a bit more harder edged and harsher, but are fine if people think that. Some people have said we are Ronnie James Dio meets Forbidden. Both are very big influences on us. I love prog music, thrash, black death metal and have a large background in Jazz. Tim loves classical music and bands like Nevermore etc. Matt is a massive forbidden fan. He also loves Franks Gambale, Al Di Meola, Vinnie Moore and Slayer hahaha. Pahl has a broad range of influences in Metal from Classic to Death Metal. Torsha is a massive Dio, Halford, Tony Martin, Bruce Dickenson and Bobby Blitz fan

4. War Of Archons is the bands debut full length, which is being released as a digital release, are there any plans to do a physical release this year? If yes, any idea when it might be released?

It has also been a physical release since Nov 2017. It is available from our Bandcamp site

5. Does the whole band work on writing the music or does one member usually write  everything?

I (the Drummer) and Matt the guitarist write 95% of the music together. We jam and sing parts to each other, discuss how they can be arranged, what kind of part should follow or precede it etc. We film a lot of these interactions so as to have a reference. Another technique we like to use is a spontaneous Jam. I will count in the tempo when the whole band is present and improvise a song on the spot as a band – we sometimes get the main themes of a song this way – Matt and I will later refine the ideas. Torsha will jam vocal parts over the music, or we will tell him what kind of melody we hear over certain parts of the songs and to give them a try. Lyrically we have used poems with permission, or Torsha or Matt will write the lyrics.

6. I know Australia has a strong black and death metal scene, but what are the progressive and thrash scenes like?

The Thrash Scene in Australia is pretty good actually, not so much in our home city but interstate. We have some great thrash bands from Australia. The Prog Scene has its followers. I wouldn’t say its massive, but it does exist. We do have a Prog Fest interstate, but as of yet we have not played on it. We wouldn’t mind playing it but have not been in contact with the promoters yet.

7. Who are your all-time favorite Australian bands and are there any new bands you feel the readers should check out soon?

Matt loved an 80s thrash band from Adelaide called the Bezerker, not to be confused with a latter band of the same name from interstate. Pahl loves Hobbs Angel of Death. When I was younger I loved Damaged with Matt Skitz on drums, and was a fan of all of Virgil Donati’s Bands. Good Current Bands to check out would be Harlott from Melbourne, In Malice’s Wake and Asylum from Queensland. Another cool band is Claim the Throne from Perth.

8. Does Shadow Realm play live very often? What have been some of the bands most memorable shows so far?

We try to play every 6 weeks. Last year didn’t adhere to that as I was overseas in China for a month and Philippines for a month and filled in on drums in a Thrash Band for a 2 month USA tour. Now that all that is behind me we will charge full steam ahead. Our most memorable Shows so far would have to be Supporting Anvil, Playing The Legions of Steel Metal Festival in Melbourne and Supporting Lord

9. Are there any tours or shows planned for 2018 if yes where will the band be  playing? Who are some bands you will be sharing the stage with?

We will be heading interstate this year for a couple of shows at a time, no long stretches planned as yet. We are working on getting an Asian tour lined up for the end of 2018 early 2019. Asia is very close to Australia and easier to get to. Australia is a very large country with very few cities. It is a difficult place to make the touring life work, unlike the USA or Europe where there is a very large city or town usually within 3 to 5 hours driving time. We have as I like to call ‘The Tyranny of Remoteness or Isolation”. I want to get back to Japan and China to play. We also would love to visit Europe at some point. We would be everywhere but the only thing stopping us is money. As said earlier we will be supporting Overkill and Ross The Boss from Manowar.

Gaz's Qs

10. What do you enjoy the most about creating music?

I love the satisfaction that comes from producing a good product that im proud of. I want to make a cd that I would like to listen to, if I like my own CD I am a very happy person. Music is so subjective, everyone likes something different, but the way I look at it is, ‘how can I expect anyone to like my CD if I don’t even like it myself? I always have an early vision, I try to bring it to life and then if others enjoy it too it’s a bonus. If we tried to write for others I think it would not be as sincere and would not be as good in the end. It sounds all very self-absorbent and masturbatory, but we do not set out to be that way. I always try to imagine what it would sound like if I was in the audience listening to the band.

11. Have you started working on the follow up album yet?

To be honest we already have the material for the next couple of albums written except for vocals and lyrics. Matt and I and used to writing together having been doing it now in 2 bands. I think by the time we hit the studio we should have another 4 songs written

12. Is it going to follow on with the same kinda themes or do you like to do something different with new music?

We will be similar, Some songs will be simpler and others extremely more proggy. Always will have that Thrash element there though

13. What other music do you enjoy outside of metal and rock?

I like Flamenco guitar, Jazz, Classical and absolutely love fusion. I also like Latin music too. I would love to record a solo latin fusion album but have no time haha

14. What would be some of your favorite movies?

I’m a massive horror fan and loved George Romero’s Dawn of The Dead, I also love Full Metal Jacket. I like more of the older movies. Im not a big fan of a lot of recent movies. Matt and I like our YouTube docos more than anything, especially on ancient civilizations etc. War of the Archons comes out of our love of the ancient and mysterious. Pahl is a Star Wars geek but hated the last instalment so I was told. I also love my war and politics docos/discussions.

15. Is there anything else you would like to shout out or mention about the band?

Yes we would love if people visited our Bandcamp site to buy Merch etc. Also we are unsigned and are looking for a good label to take us on! If Metal Blade are Listening…. Wink wink nudge nudge haha.
